dealing with narcolepsy, wedding planning, a law degree and some new fitness goals…

Who am I?

I’m a 30 year old woman living on the Gold Coast of Australia.  I’m currently studying law (due to finish 2013).  I found out that I had narcolepsy in 2010 when I was 28.  In 2012 I had my first sleep study and was officially diagnosed with narcolepsy and started medication.

After reading other blogs about narcolepsy I became inspired to start a blog of my own, to share my experience, to update my family, to discuss my diagnosis, and to get things off my chest !  The commencement of my medication coincided with me signing back up to the Michelle Bridges 12 week body transformation, so I’m also tackling some new fitness goals along the way.

My fiance and I are getting married in Koh Samui in June 2013 so I have great motivation to get myself fit and healthy and to be “wide awake” for the big day!

Narcolepsy is actually quite common, and yet incredibly misunderstood and misdiagnosed.  I believe that I have a certain responsibility to spread the word about what narcolepsy is, how it manifests itself, what to expect and ways that you can support friends or family that have been diagnosed.  Ignorance is certainly not bliss in my world, I am hoping to promote awareness and understanding.  I no longer one to bury my head in the sand, nor am I one to keep my mouth shut..!  So, I hope this blog showcases the good the bad and the ugly sides of narcolepsy and all that it entails for me.

Above all else, I believe that life is beautiful, and worth living to the fullest.  I am striving to be the best person that I can be, and this is my journey.

So welcome to my blog, I hope you enjoy reading it.  I’d love to hear any comments or suggestions that you have.
